This recipe will take about 2-3 hours from start to finish.. So be prepared.
In a large bowl have your sifted 4 Cups of All Purpose flour & 1 tsp of Salt.
In a second bowl combine 1 Cup 105*F Milk (I like Buttermilk, but you can use regular Milk) 1/2 Cup 105*F Water, 1/4 Cup Sugar & 1/4 Cup Melted Butter (Make sure your liquid mixture is still around 105*F after adding all ingredients)
Then sprinkle in 1 1/2 tsp Active Yeast.
You should see it bloom and get foamy, it will take at least 5 minutes. If you don't see this, your yeast is bad and start over) If your bloomed yeast is good, then add 1 egg beat into the mixture and add to your flour and salt and combine until it's easy to work with your hands to start kneading. This will be a wet dough, don't worry, you will need more flour while kneading about 10 minutes, NO LESS.
Once the dough bounces back if you press your finger in it, it is ready to be place in a oily bowl and covered with saran wrap to let it rise for 1 hour or until doubled. Then you will PUNCH it and knead it for another few minutes, form unto balls and knead again a few minutes per ball and place on a sheet pan on parchment paper a little distance apart but close enough so when they rise they barely touch. Cover with saran wrap and let it rise again for 30minutes to 1 hour and lightly brush 1 egg wash over tops and sprinkle with sea salt if desired and bake in a 375*F oven for 25-30 minutes until golden brown on top. Serve warm!
I like making a nice honey butter to serve with mine as well. Mix 2 parts butter with 1 part honey. :)
